Ransomware Attack Causes 300 Employees to Loose their Jobs Days Before Christmas

Ransomware Attack on a telemarketing company in Sherwood forced to closes the door, leaving 300 employees without jobs a few days before Christmas. The company failed to recover from the ransomware attack that happened months back.

Even though they have paid the ransom to recover the systems, the company found a hard time to get into the business again. The ransomware attack severely affected the company’s financial details.

Temporary Closure

The CEO of The Heritage Company, Sandra Franecke said that they have not been able to recover from the losses of hundreds of thousands of dollars. So that they are not able to pay the wages.

Unfortunately, approximately two months ago our Heritage servers were attacked by malicious software that basically “held us hostage for ransom” and we were forced to pay the crooks to get the “key” just to get our systems back up and running. Since then, IT has been doing everything they can to bring all our systems back up, but they still have quite a long way to go. Also, since then, I have been doing my utmost best to keep our doors open, even going as far as paying your wages from my own money to keep us going until we could recoup what we lost due to the cyber attack.

“What we hope is just a temporary setback is an opportunity for IT to continue their work to bring our systems back and for leadership to restructure different areas in the company in an attempt to recoup our losses which have been hundreds of thousands of dollars,” reads the letter from CEO, Sandra Franecke.

The CEO of the company wants employees to check back on January 2 to see if they can get their jobs back. This is not the first time that business shutting down after hacking attacks.

The Ransomware attack is quite common nowadays since malicious software spreading everywhere through various mediums.

  • I feel for everyone involved, but this could have been avoided with some effort and resources applied to technology. Often leaders of organizations look at technology as a support service and don't want to spend the money necessary to mitigate these problems. A simple off-site backup of critical data would have allowed recovery without paying the ransom. Sorry employees, but your boss was not kept aware of the dangers and practices that would have kept this from happening.
